Websites are gooder enuff…
There's a project I'm ready to start (FunnySaysWhat?). This may be the most enthusiastic I've been about a project (that I'm actually ready to start on). I figured that once I got started, I want to be able to stay focused. Thus, I wanted to ensure I got some things in place for some current projects. Mainly, I needed to have some web-presence for AnthemVirtual and Up In Your Biz! - as well as for my parent company, Applied Prosperity, LC. Well, it's done. Yes, it could be done better. But it's not. Yay! --DC
Simple Keys to Energy & Confidence
I realize what I'm about to say flies in the face of recent societal trends. We can witness daily, men and women across America and around the world who seem to advocate dodging truth, hiding from responsibility. In spite of this (and perhaps even to spite this), I've found the best way to progress AND gain confidence is to MAKE & KEEP PROMISES. It's a simple start, yet I've promised to keep going on both exercising (almost) daily and cleaning one room/day around the home. This keeps me healthy, keeps my wife smiling, AND (because I'm in the act of making and keeping promises) gives me a feeling of confidence that carries over into everything else. As far as confidence in business goes, the first step is to ensure value is being created; that's essential. With that value, the same principle applies: Make and keep promises. However, even when we're creating great value for others, we can have days when we doubt ourselves or our business. This is quite common. I mean, we're out there giving it all we've got and we can find ourselves exhausted; not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. Sometimes, a rest is all I need. Some family play time, reading. I might practice the piano (just starting) or play a mindless game or watch a TV show. Rest is important. What I'm saying here is this: It takes energy to make and keep promises. It can take energy to bolster our own confidence in times of doubt. And, hey: Sometimes the confidence and energy simply do not show back up on Monday morning. When this happens, I find that simply TALKING about a current project - describing it to someone else or asking for the ideas of others - this engages me and renews my own excitement. This might be done with a friend or my wife, Renee (tho not typically on a Monday morning). If the timing isn't right to share with people I know, there are plenty of people on Twitter or Facebook to get into positive conversations with about prosperity. (Thanks, Tweeps. You know who you are). Now, with our energy boosted we can put it into making and keeping promises. With this combination of principles and habits being practiced, self-respect, the respect from others, and prosperity; it all increases. "Have A Nice Dave." :) --Dave C. …the end of the rainbow.
Keep going. If you're one of many who are searching for that inner-passion so you can share it with the world, keep going. I gotta say, it's worth finding. And, if it's taking some time to find, it may be that the time it takes makes the realization that much sweeter. I'll add this: Remember to enjoy the journey of discovery, too! Open your eyes and mind like that 5-year old looking for an adventure (the looking is an adventure in itself). My passion is ideas. I love seeing ideas move from mind to market; to go from valuable to one person to valuable to many. I love the creative process ("We can do THIS, oh... and we can add this to it and that! AWESOME!"). In my own journey as I moved from idea to idea (and not really prospering, being in a state of perpetual starting), the TIME and the frustration of my apparent lack of progress finally led me to create SelfEnterpriser.com and the corresponding talk show, Up In Your Biz! So now, I'm spending my time getting to know others around my local town of Bellingham, Washington; learning about their ideas and how they've turned their passions into business. As I'm doing such, I'm absorbed into that unique essence that every city or town emits. As I get to know the people running the businesses in town, I get to know the town. Coffee shops and intersections are already (after just my first week of video shoots) transforming into landmarks that remind me of the new friendships and interactions I'm creating. So, thanks to those who encouraged me to search for my own unique abilities and passions. Thank you to the business owners of Bellingham for allowing me to get to know you. This is a real joy. More than ever before I can say about being a Self Enterpriser: It's a spectacular life. --Dave C. Image Credits: http://www.flickr.com/photos/theslowlane/ | CC BY 2.0
Determining Your Passions
Came across a question in an online forum today. It goes a lil' somethin' like this: "This may sound silly, but I’m not quite certain about what I’m passionate enough to “run with”. This actually kinda disturbs me! LOL I’m reevaluating everything." I hear this a lot. I've asked this a lot. As this was a topic close to my heart and experiences, I wrote too long of a reply not to cut and paste it as a blog'azine article. Here was my reply: Here are a few tools I’ve come across. One is my own story ( not to toot my horn, but to share the experience – I had a tough time discovering my passions, too). 1. There’s a movie available on DVD. It’s called I-Ology. It’s about discovering the 5 things that make a person feel important (on the premise that success is when a person ’feels important’). It’s a very simple concept; helped me get on track; and at least have peace and confidence as I moved forward. Oh-so Useful LINK: I-ology Moviehttp://www.iologymovie.com/(Note: The booklet that comes w/the movie contains the magic). 2. Backing up just a bit: My ’journey’ toward discovering my passions began with the concept from Jim Collin’s book: Good To Great. While he was directing this toward corporations, he described what he calls the ”Hedgehog Concept.” Essentially: What are the things you are GREAT at? What are the things you LOVE to do? What are things that create value that can be exchanged for dollars? Where these three ’circles’ intersect was where the magic was found. Oh-so Useful LINK: Jim Collins Hedgehog Concept http://www.jimcollins.com/media_topics/hedgehog-concept.html#audio=79 (Note: Gary Vaynerchuk has shown how we can (almost) take the money circle out of the picture, by describing how any passion can be turned into dollars.) Since coming across the Hedgehog Concept, it took me about a year to discover my Hedgehog Passion + Talent (known in other circles as Unique Abilities). However, it took me another year before I was able to discover how to earn money with these. Even then, I found that I was constantly changing my ideas; adding to them. Because of such, I never got much accomplished for yet another year, perhaps a bit longer. Perhaps this seems like a LONG time (it did to me). But seeming how many never discover their own ’Fountain of Prosperity and Happiness’, a three and a half year journey isn’t so bad. Many of us have to undo some inaccurate thinking before we can get a fresh start. Finally, I put two and two together and realized my talents and passions were IN the start-up and creative phases of business; and they didn’t have to be my ideas. I found that I loved to see ideas go from mind to market. Combined with my views of freedom being associated with free enterprise, I began a blog centered around ’The Business of Being Yourself’ (TM). I love humor (which is good, since most people point and laugh when I’m near). I now focus on other business owners [...]
2010 called; it asked for Relatability.
Found an article on adding your personal "voice" to one's website. I thought it a great lesson on communications in general. Here is part of what I read: ++++ (For the full article and other Stoney deGeyter articles, go HERE.) Developing your voice Before you start developing your web content you first need to determine what kind of voice you want your site to have and how you'll ultimately deploy it. A voice can really be anything: Humorous Serious Whimsical Snarky Flowery Thoughtful Brutally honest Down to earth Chances are good that your mind started speaking to you in each voice as you read the bullet point above. If not, read through it again and let your mind convert the words into examples in your mind. Just by reading the words you can really see how these voices can really come through with well-written content. You just need to decide what voice it is that will fit best with your company and your audience. You may think that your industry is limited to just one voice, but it all really depends on how well you sell it. Let's create some quick examples: Humorous: Our car batteries are durable, long-lasting and deliver enough power to start any vehicle in the harshest winter environment. Your escape from the in-law's is guaranteed every season of year. Serious: Our car batteries are durable, long-lasting and deliver enough power to start any vehicle in the harshest winter environment. You're guaranteed to get power to your vehicle when you need it most. Whimsical: You want a durable, long-lasting battery? Yeah, we got that. There is no natural force in the world that'll keep our batteries from doing their job. When you need power, we deliver. Snarky: When headed to the in-law's you want to be equipped with one of the most powerful car batteries money can buy. Come hell or high water, you're getting out of there alive! Flowery: Our car batteries are designed to withstand whatever forces of nature that heaven above (or you know who below) can throw at it. When you turn that key, you're vehicle will roar to life without so much as a cough or sputter. Thoughtful: Let's face it, batteries only fail at the worst possible time, in the worst possible location. We've built reliability into all of our car batteries so they deliver the power you need when you need it to get you to where you would rather be. Brutally honest: Your boss is a jerk, your wife can be a nag and your friends act like idiots. Everybody needs an escape. Where you escape to is up to you, but how is up to us. Our car batteries are durable, long-lasting and deliver enough power to start any vehicle any time any where. We're ready to go when you are. Down to earth: We know that you can find cheaper car batteries from those other guys. We're not competing on price, we're competing on quality. Our batteries are durable, long-lasting and deliver enough power to start any vehicle in the harshest winter environment. Can you really put a [...]
Stack It!
I'm a big fan of STACKING. Stacking is whenever you're accomplishing multiple objectives thru one task. It's not multi-tasking; that would be trying to accomplish multiple objectives by taking on multiple tasks at one time. Some examples of Stacking: Objectives: Exercise and Time with Family Playing tag or touch-football. Objectives: Reading, Relaxing, Hygene Taking a bath with book in hand. Objectives: Learning, Pooping. Hopefully, this one is obvious. (Yes, take your math tutor to the crapper with you). Some other examples of Stacking that I'm currently practicing: I want to find programs for communicating with my current and future project teams as well as with our company's clients. So, I'm using Google Wave to keep track of my weekly and daily objectives (while branching off with others who use Wave now and then). I'm using ManyMoon.com to schedule the items from my Wave with my calendar. I'm using Tumblr.com to create a group-site for the members of the improv course I attend. Just some simple tips for being more efficient. Okay, gotta wrap this up. My math tutor just arrived.
